The Harties Cableway experience – your step-by-step guide
Wondering what to expect when visiting the cableway? Here is a brief guide detailing what you can look forward to when you visit us...
Purchasing tickets
There are two ways to purchase tickets. You can purchase tickets online (we've included step-by-step instructions for your convenience), or from our ticket office at the bottom station.
Remember, you'll receive discounted rates when you buy online.
Purchasing tickets is as easy as a click of a mouse!
Before your visit – things to bring along
Prams can be accommodated and we are also wheelchair friendly.
Here are a few suggestions for things to bring along with you on your visit:
- Hats and sunglasses
- Sunscreen
- A picnic blanket
- A camera
- Spending money
Note: Please do not bring along food and drinks, as these are not allowed in the cable cars. The cableway boasts two restaurants – one at the bottom and one at the top – as well as kiosks and a bar. If you would like to enjoy a picnic lunch, we can pack one for you.
Arriving at the cableway
We are only an hour's drive from Joburg and Pretoria. Follow these easy directions and enjoy a scenic drive through the Magaliesberg.
When you arrive, you'll see the cableway climbing up into the mountains beyond the parking lot, framed by glorious views and natural scenery. Before your ride up, why not explore our curio shop or enjoy a tasty Bugatti brunch?
The cable car ride up
A friendly member of staff will greet you at the bottom station, where the cable cars stop off on their way back up the mountain. When your tickets have been checked and your cable car arrives, you'll be asked to take a seat in one of the cabins. Our cable cars can seat up to six people. Once everyone is settled, it's time to begin your ascent!
We ask that you refrain from shifting seats and touching the glass windows on the trip up (read more about your role). Enjoy panoramic views of the Hartbeespoort Dam and surrounds as you climb Africa's longest mono-cableway. You'll probably want to take a few snaps of the amazing views at this point.
At the top
The Harties Cableway is Africa's longest mono-cableway
Once you've disembarked after your cable car ride, there's plenty to do at the top! If you didn't manage to grab a bite at the bottom, the self-service express restuarant at the top is sure to impress.
Take in some fresh air as you explore the mountain and enjoy the views. Take a stroll along the 1km Dassie Loop walkway and learn more about points of interest in the area, or stretch out on the grass while your kids have fun in the KidZone play area.
Enjoy afternoon drinks with friends at the snazzy Lookout Bar, or do a bit of Christmas shopping at the Little Shop at the Top. It's definitely worth making a day of it!
The Dassie Loop walkway is fun and educational!
